The APICS Certified in Production & Inventory Management (CPIM)
program provides a common basis for individuals to assess their knowledge in the field of production and inventory management.
The program offers in-depth education on concepts, tools, terminology and techniques which you can use within the internal operations of your company.
Program:
The CPIM body of knowledge encompasses 2 modules to support the knowledge and understanding of production and inventory management.
A. Entry module: Basics of Supply Chain Management (BSCM)
The Basics of Supply Chain Management provides basic definitions and concepts for planning and controlling the flow of materials into, through, and out of an organization. It explains fundamental relationships among the activities that occur in the supply chain from suppliers to customers.
Candidates who successfully complete this module with an examination, receive a recognition of achievement certificate. Knowledge of the material in this module is a prerequisite for the other CPIM modules, which cover similar topics but in much greater depth.
B. Business process modules
This consists of 1 module which explain the available methodologies and techniques to drive processes, and the application of these techniques.
§ Master Planning of Resources (MPR)
Master Planning of Resources explores processes used to develop sales and operations plans. It identifies and assesses internal and external demand and forecasting requirements. It focuses on producing achievable master schedules which are consistent with business policies, objectives and resource constraints.
This module evaluates knowledge of both supply and demand planning for mid- to long-term independent demand. Major topics include demand management, sales and operations planning, distribution planning and master scheduling. It also addresses both priority and capacity planning.
§ Detailed Scheduling & Planning (DSP)
Detailed Scheduling & Planning focuses on the various techniques for material and capacity scheduling. It includes detailed descriptions of material requirements planning (MRP), capacity requirements planning (CRP), inventory management practices and procurement and supplier planning for both producing goods and providing services.
Recognizing the importance of supply chain management (SCM), this module also covers deployment of supply chain strategies related to scheduling, planning and sourcing.
§ Execution and Control of Operations (ECO)
Execution and Control of Operations encompasses the principles, practices, and techniques necessary to schedule, control, measure, and evaluate operations.
The course explains techniques for scheduling and controlling production and process operations. It also addresses the execution of quality initiatives and continuous improvement plans, as well as the control and handling of inventories. Finally, the course presents techniques for evaluating performance and collecting data for effective feedback.
§ Capstone module: Strategic Management of Resources (SMR)
Strategic Management of Resources module includes higher-level thinking on strategic planning and implementation of operations. It is about choosing the appropriate methodologies and techniques for specific needs, and an appreciation for the integrated nature of operations.
Explore the relationship of existing and emerging processes and technologies to manufacturing strategy and supply chain-related functions. The course addresses three main topics: aligning resources with the strategic plan, configuring and integrating operating processes to support the strategic plan, and implementing change.
